Philadelphia, PA, December 4, 2008 — As a special holiday present to the children and adolescents at Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment, the Enchantment Theatre Company this week presented The Snow Queen. The show is based on a Hans Christian Andersen tale of friendship and loyalty and is told through the performances of masked actors, life—size puppets, magic tricks and special effects. ‘This is the first time the Enchanted Theatre Company has performed at a Philadelphia hospital and we're delighted to give something back to the community and bring some sunshine to these kids during the holiday season,’ says Landis Smith, co—founder of the theatre. ‘What makes this performance even more special is that for most of these youngsters, this was the first live theatre they've ever experienced,’ says Nancy Beck, Director of Rehabilitation and Volunteer Services at Belmont. ‘I'm sure the show is something they'll always remember,’ she added. A unique aspect of the production is the question and answer session between audience members and performers that follows every show.
In The Snow Queen, a courageous young Gerda sets out alone across a frigid landscape in search of her beloved friend Kai, who has been captured by the wicked Snow Queen. As she struggles through a whirling storm of snow and light, Gerda discovers an enchanted world and ultimately rescues her friend from the Queen's ice castle. There are surprises at every turn of the production. The Snow Queen opened December 2, 2008 and runs through January 4, 2009 at The Prince Music Theater, located at 1412 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia.
